Singapore, an independent island city-state situated at the tip of the Malay peninsula, is one of the most highly developed and prosperous nations in the world. The city was founded in 1819 by Sir Stamford Raffles of the British East India Company as a trading post which was used as a link in the spice route. Singapore soon became one of the most significant commercial and military hubs in the British Empire. Singapore became an independent republic in 1965. The state has established itself as a major tourist destination with its shopping opportunities and unique cuisine.
Every visitor should sample Singapore’s vibrant nightlife which is one of the city’s major attractions. Clarke Quay, Boat Quay and Riverside are renowned leisure areas with many restaurants and pubs, patronized by both locals and foreign visitors.
